| Obverse description | The right portion of the note carries an intaglio portrait of John Chilembwe, the Malawian independence martyr, set against a multicolour underprint incorporating a lake fishing scene with boats and a fish vignette to the left. The upper register bears the issuer title "RESERVE BANK OF MALAWI" in white lettering on a red guilloche band, with the denomination "K100" at upper right; the Reserve Bank seal appears in a dark circular medallion at lower right.
