South Korea's 100 Won series went through a quiet but significant compositional shift in the early 1970s, when silver was abandoned in favor of cupronickel for circulating issues. The 1970 .999 fine silver strike exists in a transitional space — produced as the Bank of Korea was already planning the move away from precious metal coinage, making the silver issues from this period short-lived by institutional design rather than low mintage alone.
