Beschrijving voorzijde The obverse displays the national coat of arms of Togo at center, featuring two lions rampant as supporters flanking a shield bearing the monogram 'RT' (République Togolaise), surmounted by two crossed national flags and a banner inscribed with the national motto 'TRAVAIL PATRIE LIBERTE'. The circular legend 'REPUBLIQUE TOGOLAISE' arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination '1000 FRANCS' is boldly inscribed across the lower field. The design is rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished proof field, with a beaded border encircling the entire composition.

Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse depicts two antelopes standing in a naturalistic savanna setting, rendered in fine detail against a polished field. The larger antelope faces left in the foreground, its curved horns prominently raised, while a smaller antelope stands behind to the right, accompanied by sparse desert vegetation. The legend 'ENDANGERED WILDLIFE' arcs along the upper periphery, and 'LE MONDE ANIMAL EN PERIL' curves along the lower border, together presenting the theme bilingually in English and French. The date '2003' appears in the lower left field. A beaded border frames the entire composition.

Aanvullende informatie

Togo's participation in commemorative silver issues of this type was facilitated through the BCEAO framework, though the coins were never intended for domestic circulation and were produced entirely for the collector export market. The CFA franc itself is pegged to the euro at a fixed rate inherited from its original peg to the French franc — a monetary arrangement dating to 1945 that successive issuing states, Togo included, have retained without alteration.
