| Obverse description | The obverse displays the national coat of arms of the Republic of Dahomey at center, featuring a quartered shield supported by two leopards rampant, surmounted by a buffalo head, with a scroll below bearing the national motto FRATERNITE JUSTICE TRAVAIL. The denomination 1.000 FRANCS CFA appears in large lettering in the lower field. The circumferential legend reads REPUBLIQUE DU DAHOMEY, flanked by the date 1971 at the top, and the commemorative inscriptions 1er Août 1970 and 10ème Anniversaire along the left and right margins respectively. The coin is struck in proof quality with a deeply mirrored field, and a beaded border encircles the entire design. |
