Leonding is a small market town just southwest of Linz — and a footnote in history as the place where Adolf Hitler spent part of his adolescence. Whether that association had any bearing on the survival rate of this notgeld issue is impossible to say, but it likely hasn't helped its reputation among certain collectors.
Hans Wunder designed the note locally, which was common for Austrian municipal notgeld: towns often commissioned schoolteachers, local artists, or amateur designers rather than professional print houses. The result was uneven quality across the Heller issues, with some variants showing noticeably cruder registration than others — the .2 suffix in the Jaksc reference points to a distinct printing state within the series.
