The 2000 issue marked a modest redesign within the Central Bank of Oman's third series, updating security architecture as counterfeiting threats against Gulf currencies intensified through the late 1990s. The holographic strip was a direct response to that pressure — Omani rials, as a stable and widely traded regional currency, had become an attractive target.

Thomas De La Rue's long relationship with the Sultanate dates to the earliest post-1970 issues under Sultan Qaboos, and the London printing continuity across decades is worth noting given how many Gulf states diversified their print contracts during this period. Oman did not.
