Within the shield, a standing antelope and a palm tree are depicted above a landscape vignette, all enclosed within an oval cartouche. The denomination 40 FRS is displayed in large numerals flanking the shield to left and right respectively, while the circular legend BANQUE D'EMISSION runs around the periphery, rendered in spaced capitals separated by a dotted inner border.
