Cabinda is an Angolan exclave separated from the mainland by a strip of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and its separatist movement — the FLEC — has sought independence since before Angola itself achieved it from Portugal in 1975. These coins were never issued by any recognized government; they are fantasy pieces produced for the collector market, trading on the unresolved territorial dispute rather than any actual monetary authority.
