Cabinda is an Angolan exclave separated from the mainland by a strip of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and its separatist movement — the FLEC — has sought independence since before Angola itself achieved it from Portugal in 1975. These coins were never issued by any recognized government; they are fantasy pieces produced for the collector market, trading on the unresolved territorial dispute rather than any actual monetary authority. The "Republic of Cabinda" has no ISO currency code, no central bank, and no circulating coinage.
The X# prefix in Krause's catalog denotes exactly this: an unofficial issue outside the main numbering sequence.
