Dimitris Lipertis (1866–1937) was one of Cyprus's most celebrated dialect poets, writing in Cypriot Greek at a time when the island was under British colonial administration. His work drew heavily on rural life and vernacular speech, and he remains a figure of genuine popular affection rather than institutional canonization. This coin was issued as part of the Central Bank's ongoing cultural figures series.
The .925 silver composition places it in line with collector-issue standards rather than anything intended for circulation.
