The BSP's Security Plant Complex, established in 1978, was one of the few currency printing facilities in Southeast Asia owned and operated entirely by the issuing central bank — a deliberate policy decision following decades of reliance on foreign printers. By the mid-1990s it was producing the full domestic note range in-house.
