Sakha (Yakutia) has no legal authority to issue currency — monetary policy in the Russian Federation is an exclusive federal competence under the 1993 Constitution. These pieces, produced by several Russian republics and regions in the early 2010s, occupy a legally ambiguous category: not recognized as circulating tender, not officially commemorative, yet sold and sometimes used locally as if they were. Whether they qualify as tokens, fantasy issues, or something else remains genuinely contested among collectors.
