Venezuela's chronic hyperinflation of 2018 prompted several regional governments to issue their own emergency scrip — a legally dubious workaround given that Venezuela's constitution reserves monetary authority exclusively to the Banco Central. The "Zamoranos" name references Ezequiel Zamora, the 19th-century agrarian revolutionary whose image the Chávez and Maduro governments systematically deployed as ideological branding across state institutions.
