Entre Ríos was one of several Argentine provinces that issued quasi-currency bonds — known as *patacones* in Buenos Aires province and *Federales* here — during the 2001–2002 economic collapse, when the federal government froze bank deposits under the *corralito* and provincial administrations ran out of pesos to pay salaries and suppliers.
