The date 1971 appears at the top of the field, flanked by the curved legend REPUBLIQUE DU DAHOMEY reading around the left and right periphery respectively. Secondary inscriptions 1er Août 1970 and 10ème Anniversaire are incused along the inner left and right margins, commemorating the tenth anniversary of independence. The denomination 5.000 FRANCS CFA is prominently rendered in large characters in the lower field, with the fineness hallmark 900 appearing in a small cartouche at lower right. The coin is struck to proof standard with deeply mirrored fields and frosted relief, and is bordered by a continuous beaded rim. |
