| Obverse description | Frontal bust of Saint Boniface, Archbishop, depicted in a schematic Ottonian style within a beaded inner circle. The effigy shows the saint in ecclesiastical vestments with visible decorative patterning, holding a crozier to his right. The face is rendered in a stylized, hieratic manner typical of early medieval episcopal coinage. A Latin legend encircles the design between the inner circle and the coin's irregular outer rim. |

| Reverse description | The city name GRONINGEN is inscribed in three lines across the field within a beaded inner circle, reading CRV / ONIN / CE, in a characteristic early medieval multi-line town-name arrangement. The name of the issuing bishop, BERNOLDVS EPS, together with numerals, appears in the surrounding legend between the inner circle and the outer rim. The lettering is irregular and characteristic of hammered provincial coinage of the mid-eleventh century. |
