背面描述	The city name GRONINGEN is inscribed in three lines across the field within a beaded inner circle, reading CRV / ONIN / CE, in a characteristic early medieval multi-line town-name arrangement. The name of the issuing bishop, BERNOLDVS EPS, together with numerals, appears in the surrounding legend between the inner circle and the outer rim. The lettering is irregular and characteristic of hammered provincial coinage of the mid-eleventh century.
