Obverse description A Phoenician war galley with a double bank of oars advances to the left across two undulating wave lines, the hull lined with a row of shields along the gunwale and a vertical military standard erected at the stern. A regnal date appears in the upper field. The scene is rendered in crisp relief characteristic of Sidonian die-cutting of the early fourth century BC.

Reverse description A slow quadriga proceeds to the left above a ground line, driven by a charioteer; behind the driver stands the Great King of Persia in an erect posture, his right hand raised in a gesture of authority. To the rear of the chariot, the Sidonian king Abd'Ashtart (Straton I) follows on foot, attired in Egyptian ceremonial dress and carrying a cult sceptre in one hand and a votive libation vase in the other. A Phoenician inscription identifying the king appears in the field.
