Mustafa III came to the throne in 1757 following the death of Osman III, inheriting an empire increasingly strained by military reversals and provincial autonomy. The Misr mint in Cairo operated as a semi-independent production center during this period, with local beys exercising considerable influence over coin output — a dynamic that would eventually culminate in the near-total political separation of Egypt from Istanbul by century's end.
