| Obverse description | Central field dominated by the Khorugvi, the Georgian royal standard symbol, flanked on either side by the royal monograms of Queen Tamar (TR) and her consort David Soslan (DT), each surmounted by a tilde as an abbreviation mark. Paschal date numerals are disposed around the central device at the approximate positions of 11, 2, 7, and 5 o'clock, rendered in Asomtavruli Georgian script. The overall design reflects the Georgian court aesthetic of the high medieval period, with the bilingual monarchic program characteristic of the Bagrationi dynasty coinage. |
