'Umar. The inscriptions are boldly struck with characteristic angular Kufic letterforms. A marginal legend in cursive Arabic script encircles the central text area, following the irregular flan edge. The overall composition is typical of Abbasid-influenced provincial silver dirhams of the 3rd century AH. |

The Banijurids were a minor Iranian dynasty governing parts of Tokharistan under Samanid suzerainty — effectively autonomous administrators who retained the right to strike coinage as a mark of delegated authority. Muhammad b. 'Umar is among the less-documented rulers in the line, and dirhams attributable specifically to his name are scarce in institutional collections. Album's reference 1433G reflects the detailed sub-classification work done to sort Banijurid emissions, many of which share dies or mint signatures with contemporaneous Samanid issues, complicating attribution without close examination of the marginal legends.
