| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central design features a large five-pointed star with beaded edges along each arm and radiating engraved lines filling the interstitial fields, centered on a raised circular boss. The denomination '2' appears to the upper left and 'C.ES' to the upper right of the star, flanking the uppermost point. Three five-pointed stars are arranged vertically along the left field and three along the right field. The date '1906' is inscribed in the lower exergue, flanked by the mint marks 'L' and 'W'. The entire design is encircled by a continuous beaded border. |

The Congo Free State was Leopold II's personal colonial possession — not a Belgian state territory — and its coinage program was correspondingly thin and erratic. This trial strike in nickel almost certainly reflects deliberate material testing ahead of a proposed circulation issue; the 2 centimes denomination was never ultimately released for general use in the colony, making surviving essais the only physical evidence that the denomination was seriously considered at all.
