| Obverse description | Central intaglio vignette of Fr. José Celestino Mutis, the Spanish botanist and mathematician, shown in three-quarter portrait facing right, with a small vignette of the Observatorio Astronómico to his left. The denomination '200' appears in large numerals at lower left and upper right corners, with a fine guilloche underprint in green and purple tones across the face. Two manuscript signatures of the Gerente and Secretario appear at centre, with the date 'Bogotá, 1 de Abril de 1983' and 'COLOMBIA' inscribed at lower centre. |

The upper centre carries a circular medallion with a female allegorical figure, and the arms of Bogotá appear at left, all within an ornate frame typical of De La Rue intaglio production. |
