The plumage is suggested by radiating strokes surrounding the body, giving the design a dynamic, almost abstract quality characteristic of early Anglo-Saxon die-cutting. The field is unlettered, and the coin is bordered by a beaded outer ring consistent with the sceat series. The overall style reflects the transitional artistic idiom of the primary phase of English sceat production. |
